Sirikoi Lodge
Sirikoi lodge is an eco-ethnic home and while it offers a sure sense of luxury and high level of service, it manages to be welcoming. The main lodge and dining deck, four tents, Sirikoi cottage and private Sirikoi house are along the spring-fed stream, from which the lodge gets its name. All buildings have a view of the lawns leading out onto the Sirikoi wetland and waterhole. Each lodge has a private outside deck to make the most of armchair game viewing. All the rooms are spacious and tastefully designed, with unique interior touches, a sitting area, big Victorian bathtubs, rain-showers and fireplaces.
The house
Sirikoi house includes three ensuite bedrooms, which lead on to a central living and dining cottage renowned for its unique positioning and decor. There is a private deck with a fire overlooking the wetland, perfect for private meals and sundowners. Sirikoi house is sold on an exclusive basis and come with its own private safari vehicle and guide, as well as chef and team of staff. Also, on the property for guests to enjoy is the organic vegetable garden, Sirikoi gift shop and infinity pool. Guests at ash Sirikoi house have the choice of private dining or having meals on the main Sirikoi deck.
The cottage
Sirikoi cottage is perfect for families with children or friends traveling together. The cottage has two ensuite bedrooms with large bathrooms, a central living and dining room, and small kitchen. The shard living space opens out on to a spacious deck from which to enjoy beautiful views of the waterhole. Also, on the property for guests to enjoy is the organic vegetable garden, Sirikoi gift shop and infinity pool. Guests at ash Sirikoi house have the choice of private dining or having meals on the main Sirikoi deck.
The tent
Each luxury tented room has a sitting area leading onto the outside deck, a large double bed or two single beds with a wardrobe behind the bed, a fireplace which is lit each evening, and an ensuite bathroom with a free-standing bath and rain shower overlooking more beautiful views. Also, on the property for guests to enjoy is the organic vegetable garden, Sirikoi gift shop and infinity pool. Guests in the luxury tents enjoy all meals outdoors on the Sirikoi deck. The Sirikoi Duka shop has beautiful array of African artists and unique gifts. All pieces are sourced from Kenyan and East African designers, from clothing and handbags, bronzes, jewellery, art, home decor and more.
The grounds
Set among green lawns and acacia trees, Sirikoi overlooks a natural waterhole and wetland, which has become a favourite passage and sanctuary for wildlife. the Ian mess or lounge area perfectly combines luxury and authenticity. The lodge is decorated with a combination of African art and textiles, impressive bronze wildlife sculptures, hand-made furniture from the Sirikoi workshop beautiful heirlooms and fascinating artifacts collected by the family over four generations in Kenya. The Sirikoi infinity pool is perfectly refreshing in the hot midday sun before lunch.
The garden
Sirikoi offers an incredible farm to plate dining experience. The one-acre organic vegetable garden is chidden gem found just behind the lodge, with an avocado tree grove heavy with fruit all year round, an impressive variety of banana trees and berries, beautiful flowers for the lodge and plenty more. Over 80 fruits, vegetables and herbs from the garden make up the majority of the lodges fresh produce.
Wildlife encounters
Days are as action-packed or as rejuvenating as desired, and Sirikoi offers a range of unique activities through which to experience and explore the wilderness and wildlife. The wildlife on Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is abundant and includes many rare and endangered species such as reticulated giraffe, black and white rhino, and the largest resident population of Grevy’s zebra in the world. Our guests also enjoy frequent leopard, cheetah and lion sightings. Families of elephant have carved Sirikoi into their migratory routes and almost daily they can be seen just in front of the Sirikoi deck for hours at a time. Guests enjoy incredible wildlife encounters on morning, evening and night game drives in their own exclusive and open safari vehicles with their guide.
Game viewing
One of the joys of Sirikoi is the busy waterhole right in front of the main deck, making it possible to see an array of wildlife without even leaving the lodge. We call this armchair game-viewing, and it is a defining feature of Sirikoi. The wildlife on Lewa wildlife conservancy is abundant and includes many rare and endangered species such as reticulated giraffe, black and white rhino, and the largest resident population of Grevy’s zebra in the world. Our guests also enjoy frequent leopard, cheetah and lion sightings. Families of elephant have carved Sirikoi into their migratory routes and almost daily they can be seen just in front of the Sirikoi deck for hours at a time. The special ‘Northern Five’ can also been found on Lewa – Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, and Somali ostrich – rare and unique species found only in Northern Kenya.
Lodge living
Guests take pleasure in spending time at the lodge, whether enjoying a long and leisurely breakfast on the deck watching wildlife at the waterhole, cooling off in the infinity pool, unwinding with a massage, browsing through the Sirikoi gift shop or exploring the vegetable garden. Visiting the Sirikoi vegetable garden and taking a tour with George Kaberia, the head groundsman, is an unexpected highlight for most guests. Learning from George and seeing first-hand what is involved in the organic farming process is fascinating and hugely rewarding. With spring water feeding the garden, naturally rich soil, organic elephant-dung fertiliser made on site, and equatorial sunshine, the garden produces an impressive amount of fruits, vegetables and herbs, over 80 in fact, all year round.
Conservation in action
Guests are encouraged to explore Lewa Wildlife conservancy’s behind the scenes operations to get an understanding for how conservation and anti-poaching really works, and to see all that Lewa is doing for wildlife and the surrounding communities. This includes visiting the operations room, tracker dog unit, meeting the security or anti-poaching team, and visiting the Lewa school and clinic.
Flying
The lodge is just a 20 minute drive from the Lewa airstrip, which is served by both private charters and scheduled flights from Nairobi’s Wilson airport and Jomo Kenyatta international airport, a 50 minute flight away. We recommend a private charter flight with Tropic Air Kenya or schedule flights with Air Kenya or Safarilink. Flights can be arranged for you by our reservations office. Helicopters can land close by and can be arranged to fly from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta international airport or from Wilson airport.
Driving
Driving to Sirikoi from Nairobi takes about 5 hours. It is a scenic drive through the highlands of Kenya and past Mount Kenya, but due to the length of the drive we recommend flying.
