Bird Watching

Lake Nakuru is an ornithologist’s paradise with over 400 recorded species of birds. Around the lake one can find flamingos, a wide range of waders including avocet, while large rafts of pelicans can also be seen sweeping the water in unison.

The Baboon Cliff is located on one of the highest points on the hills surrounding the lake with stunning views and a picnic site where visitors can get off and enjoy the scenery.

The Great Rift Valley

This lake and park is set in Kenya’s Rift Valley, a natural fault in the earth’s crust which bisects Kenya. Its wide valleys have become the grassland home of grazing herds and therefore the kingdom of the predators. Extinct volcanic craters can be seen at Longonot, Suswa, and Menengai. Volcanic hot springs and geysers can be found at Hell’s Gate – all of which are near enough to this lodge to visit. The Rift Valley also has agriculturally rich soil, which is perfect for vegetables and also flowers. Kenyan roses, carnations and other tropical flowers like alstroemeria are flown out daily to the Dutch flower markets, and the largest spray carnation farm in the world is found here. And a trip to see these wonders in specially designed vehicles is arranged for our visitors by our courteous staff, whose desire is to ensure your holiday is absolutely perfect.

Flamingo Watch

Situated at the heart of the Rift Valley, the Lake Nakuru national park is home to one of the most amazing ornithological spectacles in the world – the flight of the flamingos! This park is host to over 450 species of birds and it is possible to spot many without moving from your own balcony. But of all the birds which consider this park their home, none is more spectacular or more awe-inspiring or unforgettable, than the great mass of pink flamingos which ring the lake, constantly fluttering and flying about, feeding on the algae in these rich alkaline waters. This is home for the largest flamingo population in the world and, every year after the long rains, the flamingos perform a mating dance – a seemingly orchestrated spectacle which is a truly amazing to watch.

Rhino Sanctuary

The park is a sanctuary to the highly-endangered black Rhino and abounds with other game such as buffalos, lions and the elusive leopard.
