Standard rooms
Salt Lick safari lodge has 96 unique rooms, all elevated on stilts and built across two levels, with ensuite bathrooms with permanent showers and WC, and running hot and cold water. We can accommodate you in these rooms at three levels with double, twin or triple beds depending on your preferred occupancy.

Salt Lick safari lodge’s spacious, well-appointed double rooms are all ensuite and give you a chance to enjoy breath-taking views of wildlife from the comfort of your room. To add to the charm and intimacy, the soft, fine linen, huge beds and thick white towels quietly whisper romance. All bedrooms have mosquito netting and a ceiling fan. In addition, each room is equipped with electric current: 220 volts, 50 cycles AC, shaver outlets 110/220 volts, 50 cycles AC. Game drives
Early morning and late afternoon game drives provide an ideal opportunity to view and photograph the diverse array of wildlife within the sanctuary. The water holes below provide a wonderful opportunity to view animals at close proximity in their habitat. The lobby and terraced bar offer excellent views and photographic opportunities, while an underground tunnel and bunker with ground level windows provides unbelievably close, yet safe access to variety of animals as they drink water. Night game drives provide guests with an opportunity of seeing animals not usually encountered on daytime game drive such as spotted and striped hyena, mongoose, jackal, civet, genet, porcupine and bush baby. Most predators are active at night, so night game drives also provide the opportunity of experiencing the circle of life. Our highly trained rangers equipped with powerful spotlights take guests for this experience of a totally difference world after dark.
Excursions
Visit a local and authentic village where you can learn about local cultures. Spend a day at Mzima springs in Tsavo west national park which is famous for its thriving of hippos and crocodiles. Can also visit Ngulia Rhino sanctuary and Lake Jipe, both located in Tsavo west. Alternatively spend the day in Tsavo east national park, where you can visit popular sites such as Aruba dam and Lugards falls. In addition you can also make a trip to the nearby Taita Hills which has spectacular views, indigenous forest and rural markets. The region to the west of the sanctuary is also rich in World War 1 history. There is a crater lake near the Tanzania border approximately 60km away.
Nature walks
The sanctuary offers many diverse opportunities for you to experience the unique flora, fauna and culture of this fascinating ecosystem. Take a nature walk with a qualified ranger guide, with emphasis on the natural environment you encounter as you stroll through the bush. Marvel at the smaller wildlife normally unnoticed during a game drive yet still important for their impact on the ecology of this diverse ecosystem.
Dining
Dining at Salt Lick safari lodge is an elegant and intimate affair. The culinary journey is enhanced by well-appointed tables and a relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy excellent cooking in the light and airy dining area, or outside dining in the bush overlooking the Taita Hills’ flora and fauna. The elevated restaurant, and the bar a level higher, offer stunning views of the sanctuary and the ideal vantage points to view game as you enjoy your meal. Bura restaurant
This is the main restaurant, with a capacity of 150 people. It overlooks the watering holes, serving buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner with live cooking counters preparing specialty dishes. Cuisines include pan-African, pan-European and pan-Asian. The salad buffet has a wide variety of salads using the freshest herbs. The dessert buffet has a selection of desserts. Special dishes are always available, and guests with on special diets are also catered for.
Vura bar lounge
The bar and the shaded terrace above the Bura restaurant provides spectacular views of the main waterhole and surrounding grasslands, and are ideal to relax and have your favourite cocktail or coffee while watching the wildlife below.
Bush breakfast
This is a unique experience of dining in the wilderness on a sumptuous breakfast. The breakfast includes live cooking against the backdrop of the Taita Hills and grassy plains of the sanctuary.
Out of Africa dinners
The landscape sets the backdrop for a bush dinner at Kudu point, the highest site. Sunsets and views of Mount Kilimanjaro provides is truly unique as you sip sundowners and eat barbecue in the wild, with trio of local band.
