Ol Pejeta Safari Cottages Nanyuki

Ol Pejeta Safari Cottages is the brainchild of safari industry veterans, Andy and Sonja Webb. It is the luxurious new addition to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, an award winning wildlife conservancy on Kenya’s Laikipia plateau. Tucked away along an acacia studded river line, in the heart of the wilderness area The Safari Cottages offer the comforts of home, exclusivity and a wonderful wildlife experience. Each cottage is entirely self sufficient, including a private chef, guide and customised 4WD safari vehicle at no extra cost. You will spend your days with one of our highly trained and knowledgable guides, exploring Ol Pejeta’s open plains and secret valleys by day and night. You’ll find lions, leopards, elephant, rhino and more. You’ll indulge in decadent, lazy lunches and dinners on your verandah, tucking into Sonja’s world renowned cuisine and listening to Andy regale 40 years of wild and fascinating bush tales.

Moju Juu and Moja Chini are two single bedroom cottages. Each cottage has an ensuite bedroom with a private lounge/dining room, and all rooms open out across an extensive verandah to the river and plains beyond. It is ideal for couples who want a private bush escape or small families who want to share a room with a young child. One kitchen serves each unit so these cottages are ideally suited for clients staying on a fully inclusive package only. Each comes with a private guide and vehicle and dedicated waiter and room attendant. Meals are catered to your tastes and standards exactly, and activities are done on your own schedule. In the cottage you will find an eco-friendly power system to charge your devices, 24hr solar electricity, hot and cold running water in the shower and wash basin, a collection of all natural bath products and soft bath towels.

Mbili is the pioneer cottage. It is built of recycled wood from the ranch house that once stood here. It is a 2 bedroom cottage, with an open plan living and dining room warmed by a roaring fire. The bedrooms are both ensuite and sleep two comfortably, or 3 in a triple room. All the rooms unzip, safari-style to a large verandah overlooking the river and plains beyond. Mbili has it’s own dedicated kitchen and chef, making it ideal for self catering groups. It also comes with a private guide, vehicle, dedicated waiter and room attendant. Meals are catered to your tastes. Activities are done on your own schedule. In the cottage you will find an eco-friendly power system to charge your devices, hot and cold running water in the showers and wash basins, a collection of all natural bath products, soft bath towels and comfy robes.

Tatu was built because we loved Mbili so much. It’s an exact replica and the 2 can comfortably be used by groups of 8 or 12 as they are within walking distance of each other, but the thick bushes between them ensure privacy when it is required. The long verandah looks out to the river and plains beyond and is an ideal place to relax in the afternoons with a cup of steaming Kenyan tea. There are two bedrooms, both ensuite with a spacious living room and dining area warmed by an open fire. Tatu has its own dedicated kitchen and chef. Making it ideal for self catering groups or those who just like that extra touch of exclusivity. It comes with a private guide and vehicle and dedicated waiter and room attendant. Meals are catered to your tastes and standards exactly, and activities are done on your own schedule.

We’re on your schedule. Whether you are up early, searching for that leopard you heard calling in the night or cuddled up on the verandah sofa watching the sun rise with a steaming cup of coffee, we aim to make every day unforgettable. You will find yourself just as much at home laughing with our team of lovely staff as you will out on the plains tracking lions and identifying birds, and that’s just the way we like it. Everything here is done at your own pace, and no matter your interest is you can linger as long as you like. In fact, the longer the better, we hate goodbyes.

Ol Pejeta conservancy

Ol Pejeta Conservancy also offers plenty of additional activities (some at extra cost), including a visit to the Endangered Species Boma, home to the last remaining northern white rhinos in the world and hosting a breeding project for the endangered Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest. You can see these magnificent animals close up and find out more about the Conservancy’s anti-poaching strategies. A short drive away is Jane Goodall’s Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, providing a safe refuge for chimpanzees that have been rescued from captivity and the bush-meat trade.

Day trips

The beautiful scenery of the Aberdare mountain range includes montane forest, bamboo thickets, rolling moorlands and magnificent waterfalls, making it a photographer’s paradise. The park provides a habitat for creatures including the rare mountain Bongo, Giant Forest Hog, Colobus and Sykes monkey and boasts well over 250 species of birds, some of them endemic. Mount Kenya is the second tallest mountain in Africa and the scenery surrounding this designated World Heritage Site is breath-taking. It is pristine wilderness with lakes, tarns, glaciers, dense forest, mineral springs and a selection of rare and endangered species of animals, high altitude adapted plains game and unique montane and alpine vegetation. We’ll pack you a picnic and walk the forest and moorlands learning more about the unique flora and fauna, not to mention incredible views.
