Eliud Kipchoge Scores Again In Berlin Marathon
Eliud Kipchoge secured his 5th Berlin Marathon title impressively, crossing the finish line with a time of 2 hours, 2 minutes, and 42 seconds. As the reigning world marathon record holder, Kipchoge showcased his unmatched skill by leaving Ethiopia’s Derseh Kindie behind at the 32km mark and running the rest of the race solo. This victory solidifies Kipchoge’s status as the most successful athlete in the history of the Berlin Marathon, surpassing Ethiopian legend Haile Gebrselassie’s four titles.
The anticipation surrounding Kipchoge’s attempt to break his world record of 2:01:09, set in Berlin last year, dominated pre-race discussions. The leading pack maintained an impressive pace, passing the halfway mark in just 60 minutes and 22 seconds. However, by the 30km mark, it became clear that Kipchoge’s record would remain intact, as they were running approximately 21 seconds off the world record pace.
With Kindie left in his wake, Kipchoge took full control of the race and crossed the finish line ahead of his compatriot Vincent Kipkemboi, who delivered a remarkable marathon debut with an impressive time of 2:03:13. Another Ethiopian debutant, Tadese Takele, also achieved a brilliant personal best, finishing third with a time of 2:03:24.
Kipchoge’s dominance in the Berlin Marathon continues to captivate fans and solidify his position as one of the greatest long-distance runners of all time.
