Our camp chef will pamper you with fine cuisines for all tastes. Special meal requirements are met on request eg vegetarian or special meals for the sick. Please inform us about any special meal requirements at the time of booking.
Maasai dances
In the evenings from 9.00 to 9.30 Masaai morans entertain our guests at the bonfire with their traditional dances and will also explain to you the meanings of their dances and songs. You are encouraged to join in and see if you could jump higher than a Masaai!
Cultural tours
You will be taken by van to a Maasai village where you will spend the day visiting the ‘manyattas’ and experience their way of life. The Maasai people are an old nomadic tribe that lives in harmony with nature and is one of the few remaining tribes in Kenya that tries to hold on to their traditions. This is at an extra fee payable direct to the Maasai moran (Maasai guide) before the tour begins.
Game drives
Amboseli’s fragile ecosystem displays an impressive wildlife variety, with more than 50 mammal species. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species. Another attraction at the park is the opportunity to meet the Masaai and of course the spectacular view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The elephants are the kings of the park, no doubt. They are fond of the swamp areas, where they share the cool waters with the hippos and hide beneath the papyrus. The park is also home to a large resident population of Burchell’s zebras. Other herbivores include Thomson’s and Grants gazelles, buffalo, warthog, Maasai giraffe, impala, water buck and dik-dik. Baboons and Vervet monkeys inhabit the scarce woodlands. Carnivores are represented by lions, spotted hyenas, wild cats, jackals, caracals and cheetahs.
Location
Kibo Safari Camp lies within the Amboseli National Reserve with splendid views of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Amboseli, meaning “salty dust” in maa, the language of the Maasai, is a place of stark contrast. The park provides the classic Hollywood image of Africa. Set in rolling savannah scenery the park is dwarfed by the presence of the pink-tinged, snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro.
