1) Nyahururu
Nyahururu is a 240-km drive from Nairobi. It is one of the places in Kenya that is in perfect harmony with nature. Around 2km outside Nyahururu town lays the beautiful Ewaso Narok river. On this river on patches of indigenous forest on the open savanna lands lies the world-famous Thomsons falls. The cascades of the Thomsons falls plunge a 74m down the cliff on the Ewaso Narok river. A Scottish geologist and naturalist named Joseph Thomson when he walked from Mombasa all the way to Lake Victoria discovered it in 1883.
2) Nanyuki
The beautiful town of Nanyuki with its broad street lies at the foothills of Mount Kenya. It was a buzzing marketplace with an expanding population dealing with all kinds of commerce and trade. Even today, Nanyuki, the last highland before descending into the northern plains, does indeed retains the frontier spirit.
3) Tsavo
A historical site for over 100 years, the whole of Tsavo West was once a savanna that turned into woodland over time. Tsavo park is nine times bigger than Mara played its role in the Kenyan political arena too. After the independence of Kenya, the Kilaguni Lodge was the only site with a telephone number outside Nairobi. It was called the red phone, which was the direct line between the State House and any other place. Jomo Kenyatta would be driven down to Kilaguni every once in a while, for a presidential break. There is even a picture of him looking towards the waterhole from the Kilaguni lodge.
